史载“光绪元宝”当时共十九个省局铸造。除中央户部，地方省所铸铜元，皆在其正面上缘镌写省名。而此枚“光绪元宝”是我国清代光绪年间铸造之铜元，该币所有字面、图案表面均依势圆润凸起、错落有致，有立体雕塑之感。文字间架构大气磅礴，犹如墨迹正在饱满之时。祥云蟠龙前后有别，形似腾跃之际，使观者立感龙威无边。正面铸有铭文，顶部铸楷体“山东省造”，底部铸币值“当十”，中心直读“光绪元宝”四字，币中心为六瓣花饰。

光绪二十七年，山东巡抚袁世凯曾凑请自制银元，获准后，袁世凯即调职，次年由接任巡抚周馥中秋节开造，又遇清廷整顿币值，于光绪二十九停铸。不久，复请设立银元局，获准之后，就在机器局内附设铜元局，定名为“济南铜元局”，于光绪三十年七月开始铸造。正是由于种种历史原因使之山东省造铜元数量非常稀少。 更为难得的是，本币因在机铸时人为原因出现错误，导致背面龙纹倾斜偏转30度有余，甚是独特。针对于古钱币错版在古币市场更为稀缺，光绪元宝本身为机制币，正反两面采用冲压方式支撑，在古代时期，钱币代表权利和统治，每一位帝王上位必须制作自己的钱币，在钱币制作商是要求非常严苛，不允许差错，此币能流传于世，实属难得，难得！
